Let's call this a 2。5; mostly a fun time but sadly the romance just didn't do it for me, and I totally and completely lost my shit at the leads' "bodies fitting as one, like TWO SLICES OF BREAD reunited。。。" Sorry, just couldn't bounce back from that one。 Let's call this a 2。5; mostly a fun time but sadly the romance just didn't do it for me, and I totally and completely lost my shit at the leads' "bodies fitting as one, like TWO SLICES OF BREAD reunited。。。" Sorry, just couldn't bounce back from that one。 。。。more

this was fine! it was entertaining and a quick read。 i didn't necessarily love or hate anything about this book, but i will forget about it。 it was steamy and fun and there was good banter between the romantic leads, but the plot fell flat and the family dynamics were so outrages it made me so mad。 the brother sucked and sister was so immature。 i think the premise was enticing and it started off really good, but as the story went along we didn't get much character development or a romance develo this was fine! it was entertaining and a quick read。 i didn't necessarily love or hate anything about this book, but i will forget about it。 it was steamy and fun and there was good banter between the romantic leads, but the plot fell flat and the family dynamics were so outrages it made me so mad。 the brother sucked and sister was so immature。 i think the premise was enticing and it started off really good, but as the story went along we didn't get much character development or a romance development really。 it was just physical attraction。 i enjoyed it but didn't love it。thank you avon and harper voyager and netgalley for this advanced reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Paperback 3。5Silas is supposed to gave dark long unfashionable hair, past his ears。 The cover has him looking like The Hardy Boys , too preppy。 The olde old dude wins young chick from a loser male family member trope。 Meh。Nothing original here。 Very skimmable。 Hero and heroine were likable。No real gambling hell scenes。

It was just meh。 I wanted to love it and I thought it had an intriguing plot when I glanced over it。 I found myself wanting to skip through the book to she if there was anything interesting at all。

I really liked this one。

A subversive, sex-positive regency romance with hints of a Pride and Prejudice subplot。 It's refreshing to read a historical romance where the heroine has 100% agency in her sexual decisions。 It was predictable and a little bit shallow -- but overall a fine comfort read if you're looking to scratch the steamy Regency romance itch。 3。5 stars A subversive, sex-positive regency romance with hints of a Pride and Prejudice subplot。 It's refreshing to read a historical romance where the heroine has 100% agency in her sexual decisions。 It was predictable and a little bit shallow -- but overall a fine comfort read if you're looking to scratch the steamy Regency romance itch。 3。5 stars 。。。more

Finally, I’ve read a book。 And this one was pretty good。 The characterization of our two leads is distinct and I liked the directions the plot went。

3 1/2 stars because of the build up of steam in the opening chapters, and the fact that the woman is the one doing the ravishing, which is a nice change of pace。 But I just can't quite bump it up to 4。 This book had been on my wish list for a while now, and honestly, I'm disappointed。 You have the "h as martyr" trope, with Mercy having to keep her entire family afloat。 Her sister and brother are pretty unlikable。 The H, Silas, is the owner of a gaming hell who should be edgy, but I kind of ended 3 1/2 stars because of the build up of steam in the opening chapters, and the fact that the woman is the one doing the ravishing, which is a nice change of pace。 But I just can't quite bump it up to 4。 This book had been on my wish list for a while now, and honestly, I'm disappointed。 You have the "h as martyr" trope, with Mercy having to keep her entire family afloat。 Her sister and brother are pretty unlikable。 The H, Silas, is the owner of a gaming hell who should be edgy, but I kind of ended up feeling "meh" about him。 The elements are there, but there's not much zip to the writing style, characters, or dialogue。 Silas mentions over and over that Mercy smells like oranges (uh, OK。 Not all that sexy。)。 He makes sure that she knows she's not his type, even when she's going to town on him, which dropped the steam level to more of a weak simmer from a boil for me。 I kept hoping for Mercy to have some kind of clever, funny comeback, but it never happens。 "Winter's Wallflower" by Scarlett Scott does a better job with this basic premise, although the ravishing in that book is more mutual。 Also, if you like hot gaming hell owners, I strongly recommend "The Wicked Wallflower" by Tracey Sumner。 。。。more

Would've loved more time with them together。 The ending was perfect! I freaking hated Bede。 Her brother was absolutely evil! Saftey: no ow drama。 Om is someone her brother basically sold her to on the end。 This doesnt have much holding cause a few pages later the H sold his club for her freedom。 So cute! DNF @ 17%I’m not a prude but a historical romance that almost immediately begins with a graphic sex scene between the two main characters just doesn’t appeal to me。 It doesn’t even make sense considering the woman is a virgin at that point, so she’s going from 0 to 100 in what feels like the blink of an eye。 In general I like to read books in the historical romance genre because of the relationship building, witty dialogue, and underlying sexual tension stemming from how society during this time DNF @ 17%I’m not a prude but a historical romance that almost immediately begins with a graphic sex scene between the two main characters just doesn’t appeal to me。 It doesn’t even make sense considering the woman is a virgin at that point, so she’s going from 0 to 100 in what feels like the blink of an eye。 In general I like to read books in the historical romance genre because of the relationship building, witty dialogue, and underlying sexual tension stemming from how society during this time period constrained people from acting on their desires。 This book has none of that。 Pass。 。。。more

2。75 STARSCute but mechanical, not going to remember this one for longer。 I hated the very beginning – it's a "me" thing – I usually dislike gambiling den-related tropes and gambling den owners as MMCs and I was expecting the worst。 Turned out exceptionally well this part, and there was barely any action happening in the gambling den – FTW for me。Also + no prolonged secrets, secret identities, miscomunication-related conflicts。– Outwardly motivated tension– Barely original characters – I've read 2。75 STARSCute but mechanical, not going to remember this one for longer。 I hated the very beginning – it's a "me" thing – I usually dislike gambiling den-related tropes and gambling den owners as MMCs and I was expecting the worst。 Turned out exceptionally well this part, and there was barely any action happening in the gambling den – FTW for me。Also + no prolonged secrets, secret identities, miscomunication-related conflicts。– Outwardly motivated tension– Barely original characters – I've read about those many many MANY times already and they were intersting enough for me to continue on reading, but not interesting enough to be remembered。 – The relationship was mostly built on their physical desire and certain character compatibilities。 They made each other marginally better, but it felt more like companionship and friendship than some greater intellectual and emotional connection。 Still, it was a simple read and I enjoyed it fairly。Just nothing special 。。。more

Well I liked this second book in the series ( WHY is it called Duke Hunt?) better than the first。 Definitely liked the heroine, Mercy, more。 She was relatable, strong, resilient and sympathetic。 And I love Silas。 Not a rake ( some authors just fail so hard at writing rake stories) but still a great guy。 I love his generosity and strength。 He complements Mercy well。 Hate Mercy’s family。 A lot。 Though her younger wises up, so that is a plus。 I’m on to a new author because Ms Jordan just … she does Well I liked this second book in the series ( WHY is it called Duke Hunt?) better than the first。 Definitely liked the heroine, Mercy, more。 She was relatable, strong, resilient and sympathetic。 And I love Silas。 Not a rake ( some authors just fail so hard at writing rake stories) but still a great guy。 I love his generosity and strength。 He complements Mercy well。 Hate Mercy’s family。 A lot。 Though her younger wises up, so that is a plus。 I’m on to a new author because Ms Jordan just … she doesn’t “move” me with her books。 。。。more

It was a quick, fun novel that I’m glad I took a moment to get to know。It wasn’t life altering but it was a great book to pull me out of a reading slump。

I could not put this book down! It was incredible!!! I got it as a ‘blind date with a book’ sort of thing and was intrigued by the blub but never imagined I would enjoy it this much。 You start the book right in the middle of the action, which is maybe my favorite thing about it — that there isn’t an overlylong, drawn out introduction。 It’s just bam - straight action!! Mercy is such a complex and really lovable character and you really relate to her as the book goes on and you see how much she ha I could not put this book down! It was incredible!!!
